Ingredients

  • 1 + 1/2 cup hot water
  • 1/4 cup jaggery tightly pressed
  • 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder
  • pinch of nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ginger powder
  • pinch of edible camphor
  • 1/2 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

  • First, add hot water and jaggery powder to a glass; mix well
  • furthermore add cardamom and ginger powder; mix well
  • Add a pinch of nutmeg and a pinch of edible camphor; mix well
  • Cool completely
  • Finally add lemon juice; mix well and serve immediately or refrigerate and serve chill

Notes

  1. jaggery powder melts quickly so I would recommend doing that.  If you have big pieces of jaggery, microwave them for a minute to melt jaggery
  2. no, it is optional. The purpose of using hot water is to melt jaggery.  I like the flavor of panagam prepared with hot water
  3. The lemon and jaggery flavor goes well.  You can adjust according to your taste.

variation for jaggery drink

  1. You can add sparkling water and serve it at a summer party
  2. Crush little pepper and add for extra flavor
  3. if you do not have nutmeg and edible camphor, skip it
  4. add tulsi leaves for extra flavor
