About

Thank you my Viewers, followers and Co-Bloggers for taking time to run through Traditionally Modern Food (TMF)

I am Vidya Srinivasan.  I am from singara Chennai, now living in USA. I have always loved to cook, and enjoyed cooking even as a child. I stil remember my first attempt at cooking something. When I was 13 years old, mom was out one day, and I was at home with my kid sister. She said she was hungry, and I prepared “upma” for her. After tasting it she just refused to eat as it was not like my Amma’s (Mom) preparation. After tasting it myself, I realized I forgot to add salt 😉 Till date, whenever I prepare anything I double check for salt, remembering my Amma’s comment that day “Amma illa na upma ku uppu illaya nu” ( If mom is not present, will the upma not have salt!)

I started this blog to primarily keep a record of sorts for all the recipes that I try. Instead of writing everything that I learnt in a notebook, publishing it on the internet would help not only me, but a lot of people who are looking for new and interesting recipes. I have learnt a lot about cooking and various cuisines from fellow bloggers, and this is also one way of giving back to the world of food blogging, which is a treasure trove of information for cooks at all stages.

Being big time foodies, Hubby and I love to try different  Vegetarian cuisines. One fine day after eating my food he casually mentioned that I should start blogging, and that inspired me. Be it searching a name for my blog, designing the pages, suggesting which recipe to post – my hubby does help me a lot. His support is another strength that helps me blog.

“Where are my recipes from?” I have learnt many of these recipes from my family members. In fact, I still have my first recipe book, which was hand-written by my mom. I took it with me when we went overseas, and Whenever I refer to that book, I feel like my mom is standing next to me and guiding me. In addition to that, the blog includes my improvisations on their recipes, and also recipes from my friends. I have also tried to twist and tweak the recipes that I have bookmarked from magazines and read in other blogs.

I am passionate about baking, and oven is my best friend in the kitchen. Less oil and tasty dishes, oven is such a boon. I have tried baking bonda, pakoda, seedai and thattai, which are traditional Indian snacks. I also use the microwave oven to try out some easy and innovative recipes, like Microwave cream biscuit cake and 1-minute instant cookies. I believe healthy food leads to healthy living, so I try recipes like sugarless Tomato jam, cake (Replacing sugar with honey and dates), cracked wheat and oats recipes etc.

The recipes I have shared have undergone various trial and error sessions in my kitchen. I post my recipes only if they are approved by my food critic – My Hubby :). I encourage you to modify or adjust the ingredients according to your taste when you try these recipes, and please do not forget to post your feedback.
