Kara chutney

Ingredients

  • 1 + 1/2 cup small onions
  • 2 cups ripe tomatoes
  • 10 small garlic
  • 2 + 1/2 tablespoon Kashmiri chilli powder
  • Required salt
  • small piece Jaggery

To temper

  • 2 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • Curry leaves few

Instructions

  • Firstly add onion, tomatoes, garlic, salt, Kashmiri chilli powder, and a pinch of jaggery to a mixie jar and pulse without adding water
  • Add oil to a wide heavy-bottomed pan and heat the oil
  • When the oil is hot add mustard seeds and lets them splutter
  • Add curry leaves and mix well
  • Furthermore, add ground mixture; mix well, and saute for 3 minutes
  • Add water and cook on medium flame for 15-20 minutes till chutney comes to desired consistency

Notes

  1. I would recommend small onion for Spicy tomato onion chutney. You can add a combination of big onion and small onion but avoid adding just big onion
  2. Always use ripe tomatoes. Avoid raw tomato.
  3. Kashmiri chilli powder gives amazing color to the chutney so I would highly recommend that. If you are not a big fan of red color chutney you can regular red chilli
  4. If you are using red chilli always soak them in water till they turn soft. Discard the water then grind
