Ingredients

pressure cook dal

  • 1/4 cup toor dal
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • A few drops of sesame oil

Pressure-cook sambar with veggies

  • 1 tablespoon of sambar powder
  • 1 + 1/2 cup water
  • 1 cup thin tamarind water
  • pinch of jaggery
  • few coriander leaves
  • 6 small onions
  • 1 tomato
  • Mixed Vegetables
  • Requires salt

temper

  • 1/2 tablespoon peanut oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • Few fenugreek seeds
  • Asafoetida
  • curry leaves

Instructions

  • Firstly wash and soak dal for at least 1 hour
  • Discard the water and add a 1:3 ratio of water, a pinch of turmeric powder, and a drop of oil
  • Pressure cook for 3 whistles and let the pressure release naturally
  • Mix well
  • Furthermore add water, onion, mixed veggies, and tomato; bring to boil
  • Add tamarind water, required salt, jaggery, sambar powder and coriander leaves
  • If it is thick add extra water otherwise sambar might burn
  • Bring to a frothy boil; pressure cook for 2 whistles
  • Boil for 5 minutes or till you get the desired sambar consistency
