Ingredients

TO SOAK

  • 3/4 cup pattani
  • 2 cups water

TO PRESSURE COOK

  • Requires salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon sesame oil

TO TEMPER

  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 green chilli
  • Curry leaves few
  • 1 red chilli
  • 1/2 tablespoon urad dal
  • Asafoetida generous portion
  • 1/4 teaspoon ginger powder or ginger
  • 1/2 tablespoon chana dal

  • 1/4 cup coconut
  • 1/2 cup raw mango
  • 1/4 cup grated carrot
  • salt if needed
  • lemon juice

Instructions

  • Soak dal
  • First, wash pattani
  • Add water and soak for overnight or at least 8 hours
  • Pressure cook
  • Transfer to a pressure cooker
  • Furthermore add salt, and sesame oil
  • Pressure cook for 3 whistles and do a natural pressure release
  • To temper
  • Add oil to the pan and when the oil is hot add mustard seeds, chana dal , red chilli, curry leaves, urad dal; let them splutter
  • Furthermore, add green chilli, asafetida, and ginger; mix well
  • Madras pattani  Sundal
  • Add cooked pattani and salt; mix well
  • Furthermore add mango, coconut, and carrot; mix well
  • Turn off the stove
  • finally, add lemon juice and mix well
