soya chunk tikka

This flavorful soya tikka is a quick, protein‑rich vegetarian starter made by marinating soya chunks in curd and tikka spices, then pan‑frying them with onions, capsicum, garlic, and a touch of ghee. The besan coating gives it a light tikka‑style crust, while lemon juice and kasoori methi add that classic smoky, restaurant‑style finish. It’s an easy, wholesome appetizer that pairs beautifully with mint chutney or can be used as a filling for wraps and rolls.

Tips to note

  • I recommend  using mini soya
  • Always soak them well till they turn soft
  • Drain the water completely and squeeze the water well so it absorbs all the flavor without turning bland

Should I parboil soya?

Soaking is enough to turn them soft if you use mini soya chunks.

What is soya tikka?

A vegetarian tikka made using marinated soya chunks sautéed with aromatics, spices, and besan for a tikka‑style coating.

Why squeeze the soya chunk?

Removing excess water helps the chunks absorb the marinade better and prevents a bland taste.

Can I bake or air‑fry this?

Yes—air‑fry at 180°C/350°F for 10–12 minutes or bake at 200°C/400°F for 15 minutes.

Can I skip curd?

You can replace it with vegan yogurt or a mix of lemon juice + besan for binding.

Why add besan flour?

Besan helps coat the soya and gives a light tikka crust when sautéed.

Can I add more vegetables?

Yes—mushrooms, paneer cubes, or tomatoes work well.

Is soya tikka healthy?

Yes—soya chunks are high in protein, fiber, and low in fat, making this a nutritious snack.

What to serve with soya tikka?

Mint chutney, lemon wedges, onion rings, or use it inside wraps, sandwiches, or salads.

Why add kasoori methi at the end?

Crushing it at the end enhances aroma and gives a restaurant‑style tikka flavor.

Can I make this ahead?

Yes—marinate the soya and refrigerate for up to 24 hours. Cook just before serving.

Can I add tomatoes?

If you like semi-gravy consistency, add tomatoes, but I prefer this dish without tomatoes

Can I make them ahead of serving time?

Yes, it is perfect for dinner parties. You can make it ahead. If you are reheating, cover and cook. If required, sprinkle water
