Drumstick thokku

Flavorful dish with drumsticks. It goes well as a side dish. Also, tasty rice accompaniment when mixed with rice

Murungakkai variety 

Fresh drumstick gives the best taste, but you can also use frozen drumsticks. Make sure it is not dry and old

Should I  roast drumsticks in oil?

If you have fresh green drumsticks, you can skip roasting, but for slightly old ones, roasting in oil helps to absorb the flavor. If you want to reduce oil, you can steam cook drumsticks, but the flavor might vary.

Amount of tomatoes?

Depends on the sourness of the tomato. Adjust accordingly.

CAN I add tamarind?

 I like the sourness from tomatoes, hence I skipped tamarind.  If you are adding tamarin, adjust the tomatoes accordingly

The shelf life of drumstick thokku

It stays good for 2 days in the fridge. For a longer shelf life, skip peanut oil and increase sesame oil.

Spice for brinjal thokku?

I used sambar powder. If you are using regular chilli powder or Kashmiri chilli powder,  reduce the quantity accordingly.

COLOR OF THE drumstick thokku

The color of the thokku depends on various factors like the Sambar powder, tomatoes, etc.

CAN I skip the onion and garlic?

Onion and garlic give good flavor, so I would recommend them.

3 tablespoon peanut oil

½ teaspoon mustard seeds

1 teaspoon fennel seeds

12 small onions

Curry leaves

12 garlic

1 onion

Turmeric powder

Required salt

1 tomatoes
