Appalam kootu

If you are out of veggies, appalam kootu is a protein-rich tasty rice accompaniment/side dish.

WHAT KIND OF DAL SHOULD I USE FOR appalam paruppu kootu?

kadala paruppu goes well with appalam flavor. In our home, I prefer using a combination of toor dal and chana dal. You can use moong dal like my other kootu varieties.

Can I skip onion and garlic

they are optional but give good flavor to the kootu

the number of whistles

adjusts according to your dal. Always do natural pressure release.

CAN I SKIP ASOFEOTIDA?

Asofeotida enhances kootu flavors and it is good for digestion so I prefer adding it. You can adjust the Asofeotida quantity according to your choice.

Traditional Appala Kootu served with rice and sambar, authentic South Indian meal.

Should I deep fry appalam?

you can deep fry or microwave appalam. Avoid roasting appalam in direct fire as texture might vary.

WHAT IS THE BEST COMBO FOR appala paruppu KOOTU?

It tastes best as a rice accompaniment when paired with potato roast, and raw banana roast. It also goes well as a side for tamarind-based kuzhambu variety and rasam variety.

CAN I USE ANY OTHER OIL for lentil papaf dal?

I always prefer coconut oil for coconut-based recipes and sesame oil for tamarind-based recipes. you can use the oil of your choice.

Can I make one-pot appalam kootu?

Adding appalam at the beginning might turn fully mushy so cook the way i did

CAN I INCREASE CHILLI and skip sambar powder

Adjust the spicy according to your taste.
