Paruppu Thogayal is traditional South Indian dish. Thogayal recipe can be prepared within 5 minutes. Check out the video and If you like the video pls SUBSCRIBE to my channel

Paruppu thogayal is light and good for digestion. Whether it is side dish or rice accompaniment, Paruppu thogayal tastes yum.

Jagadish loves this Paruppu thogayal. Whenever we have a heavy meal at home or outside, he prefers Paruppu thogayal, sutta Appalam and milagu rasam next day. Simple and comforting for tummy.

There are various version of thuvaiyal. Growing up, Paruppu thogayal for me was a different style. My Amma makes a version with urad dal and coconut. We used to have it with sesame oil. Next to coconut thogayal, this was my favorite. Well Urad dal version is not light like this toor dal thogayal but Vengaya vetha kuzhambu, thogayal and vadam is an addictive combo.

This version of thuvaiyal is my mother-in-law’s version. I happened to taste this after marriage. One day we all went out and had lunch, I was extremely full and said I will skip dinner. MIL made this Paruppu thogayal and milagu rasam for dinner. Seeing the difference in color and texture I was asking how it is prepared. After hearing toor dal I was doubtful about the taste but it was so comforting.

Now a days I cook both Amma’s and MIL’s version alternatively. Recently we had vegetable biryani, Shorba and cucumber raita for lunch so next day we needed a light meal and Paruppu thogayal and milagu rasam came into the menu. That’s when I realized I haven’t posted it yet.

Love the combination and the fact that this has red chile. I cannot live without my spicy foods. Masterful way of using the spices on this recipe too.

I’ve never heard of or tried this dish before. But how can you go wrong with a homemade dish that takes under 10 minutes!

I never tried this before. Is it similar to a hummus? It looks absolutely delicious!

I make the paruppu thogayal the same way and I love it with milagu kuzhambu. My mom made the best thogayal and I am getting no where close to her skills. This just reminds me of her and my carefree days 🙂

That sounds delicious and love lentil dips or mixes. I’ve never had it before but would definitely try some with rice or hot dosa.

[…] Like Paruppu thogayal, this thogayal doesn’t have any coconut. In almost all the thogayal I make I add coconut. This one without coconut or any other ingredients like garlic, onion, mint, coriander leaves pulled my attentions. There are days when I am out of veggies, and super confused as to make rice accompaniment. I thought recipes like this should have a copy in my blog.  […]
