    Sri Lankan beans curry

    Sri Lankan beans curry, also known as "Bonchi curry," is a delicious and flavorful dish made with green beans cooked in coconut milk and a blend of spices. It's usually served with rice or roti and can be enjoyed as a vegetarian main dish

    Can I fine-chop beans?

    Traditionally beans are chopped in this way for Sri Lanka curry. You can fine chop for variation

    Can I steam-cook veggies

    Yes, but the flavor might vary. Beans cooked this way give the best flavor

    Can I skip onion and garlic

    Onion and Garlic give amazing flavor to the Sri Lankan-style curry but you can skip it according to your taste.

    Serving suggestion

    It goes well as a side for kuzhambu, rasam, kootu and a variety rice

    Stays good for 2 days

    Is it spicy curry

    We use green chilli, and curry powder so adjust according to your source level.

    Ingredients

    200 grams of green beans

    1/4 cup + 1 tablespoon coconut milk 

    1 tablespoon coconut oil

    Required salt

    2 garlic

    3/4 cup small onion

    2 green chili 

    1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds

    1/8 teaspoon fenugreek seeds

    1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds

    Cinnamon

    How to make Sri Lankan green bean curry with step-by-step pictures 

    • Add oil and heat

    • When the oil turns hot add fenugreek seeds, cumin seeds, fennel seeds, and cinnamon; roast

    • Add green chilli, and garlic; mix well

    • Furthermore, add onion and saute till it turns translucent

    • Add beans; mix well and saute for 1 minute

    • Furthermore, add the turmeric powder, curry powder, and required salt; mix well and saute for 2 minutes

    • Add coconut milk; Cover and cook for 7-9 minutes; until beans are cooked. Sprinkle water if required

    • Check  salt and add if required 

    • Finally, add coconut milk and Open cook for 1 minute
