    Rice for Sri lankan yellow rice?

    I used Sona masoori rice but you can also use Keeri Samba, Suduru Samba (Jeeraga Samba), Muthu Samba and Basmati Rice

    Can i skip pandan leaves for turmeric rice

    Traditionally pandan leaves is used for yellow rice recipe with coconut milk.

    Oil for Sri Lankan rice recipe

    Traditionally coconut oil is used but for variation, you can use the oil of choice

    Can I use regular onion

    Yes, you can use a regular onion instead of a small onion but small onions gives best flavor and traditionally used.

    Veggies or other add on

    You can add scrambled egg for protein and extra flavor. Grated Carrot can be used.

    Coconut milk?

    You can use store-bought or homemade coconut milk. If it is too thick dilute it with water

    WILL Sri lankan Kaha Bath  taste spicy?

    No it won't taste spicy. You can adjust spice according to your taste.

    You can serve it with other Sri lankan dish or curry of your choice

    Coconut-based recipes

    Ingredients

    1/2 cup rice

    1 tablespoon coconut oil

    Small piece Cinnamon

    Cardamom

    1/4 teaspoon pepper

    1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds

    1/4 teaspoon fennel seeds

    6 garlic

    10 small onion

    Curry leaves

    3 green chillies

    Pandan leaves

    1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder

    1/2 cup water

    1 teaspoon salt

    1/2 cup coconut milk

    How to make Sri lankan yellow rice with step by step pictures 

    • First, wash and soak rice for 20 minutes

    • Heat oil and saute cinnamon, cardamom, pepper, fennel seeds, and cumin seeds; saute

    • Saute garlic and small onion till translucent

    • Add curry leaves, pandan leaves, and green chilli; mix well

    • Furthermore, add rice, water, coconut milk, turmeric powder, and salt; bring to a boil

    • Cook for 2 whistles

    • Finally, add roasted cashews and raisins; mix
