    Mezhukkupuratti | vendakkai curry is a tasty South Indian style poriyal variety. it takes around 10 minutes to prepare this poriyal-style curry. Tips & tricks to make Indian vegan style.

    WASH AND WIPE THE OKRA

    Always wash okra well then wipe it well with a kitchen towel. Chop and spread in the towel and make sure no moisture in vendakkai curry

    What is Mezhukkupuratti

    Mezhukkupuratti is a traditional Kerala dish from South India. It's a dry stir-fry preparation. The vegetables are usually thinly sliced and cooked until they are tender.

    Mezhukkupuratti Vs thoran

    Mezhukkupuratti and Thoran are both South Indian dishes, but there are subtle differences between them. Mezhukkupuratti is a dry stir-fry where the vegetables are typically sliced or chopped and sautéed with spices until tender. On the other hand, Thoran is a dish where the vegetables are finely chopped, mixed with grated coconut and other seasonings, and then stir-fried.

    Can I thin-cut okra?

    Yes, you can chop the way you want. Based on that cooking time will vary.

    Can I use garlic

    Garlic gives amazing flavor to the Kerala style you can add it according to your taste.

    Can I use regular onion?

    Yes, you can use regular onion but small onion gives the best flavor.

    It goes well as a side for kuzhambu, rasam, kootu, and variety rice

    Is it spicy curry

    We use chilli flakes to adjust according to your source level. You can also use green chilli or chilli powder.

    OIL FOR BENDAKAYA FRY

    I have used coconut oil. You can use sesame oil/ peanut oil or any oil of your choice.

    Ingredients

    150 grams of okra

    1 tablespoon coconut oil

    Required salt

    Curry leaves few

    1/2 teaspoon chilli flakes

    10 small onion

    How to make Kerala-style vendakka Mezhukkupuratti with step-by-step pictures 

    • Add oil and heat

    • When the oil turns hot, add curry leaves, chilli flakes; roast 

    • Furthermore, add onion; saute till onion turns translucent

    • Furthermore, add salt; mix well and cook for a minute

    • Add vendakkai; mix well

    • Turn to medium-high flame; cook for 2 minutes

    • Mix well in between
    • Turn to low flame and cook for 5-6 minutes until okra gets roasted
