Temple Style Milk pongal is a popular prasadam served in srirangam perumal kovil. Unique pongal is so addictive and tasty.

WHY NO MOONG DAL FOR KOVIL SAKKARA PONGAL

Sweet Pongal is a traditional dish offered in most temples to god in the form of naivedyam as prasad or prasadam. Considering the weather conditions and shelf life of moong dal, moong dal is not added to many kovil sweet Pongal.

    SHOULD I soak RICE?

Soaking rice is mandatory for paal pongal. cook rice till it turns mushy. I used sona masoori rice. you can use raw rice. Avoid basmati rice.

    CAN I REDUCE JAGGERY?

Yes, adjust the jaggery according to your taste. You can also use Karupatti, sugar, instead of jaggery.

    Sugar candy alternative

You can use white sugar instead.

    SHOULD I FILTER JAGGERY?

If jaggery has impurities, milk pongal might curdle so filter, and make Pongal.

    Can I increase GHEE?

To get the authentic temple prasadam taste, you must use the amount of ghee mentioned in the recipe. Ghee enhances the flavor but adjusts according to your taste.
