    Rajma masala is a tasty one-pot recipe made with channa and an onion-tomato base. It can be prepared quickly using a pressure cooker or Instant Pot.

    Rajma curry in the pressure cooker

    One-pot chana masala is so flavorful and a great beginner-friendly recipe. Be it weekday food or make-ahead curry for a dinner party- One pot rajma curry is a great option.

    Should I soak rajma?

     Soaking rajma overnight or for 12 hours helps with perfect cooking.  Even without soaking, you can cook rajma masala for additional time in IP or whistles in pressure cooker and it will be cooked but soaked rajma is good for digestion.  

    should I grind tomato?

    it helps for perfect gravy consistency. instead you can fine chop tomatoes or cook whole tomato and remove the skin after cooking

    Can I cook IP rajma masala?

    Yes follow all the steps and pressure cook for 30 minutes 

    How to alter watery rajma

    Cook for additional time or mash a few cooked rajma and boil the curry. you can add extra cream

    number of whistles

    to make toddler-friendly texture i prefer 8 whistles you can adjust the whistles according to your texture

    North Indian curry

    Ingredients

    soak

    3/4 cup rajma

    enough water to soak

    To pressure cook

    1/2  tablespoon peanut oil

    1 big onion

    2 big tomatoes, I used vine tomato

    1 tablespoon ginger garlic paste

    1/2 teaspoon + 1 teaspoon Kashmiri chilli powder, heaped

    1 teaspoon garam masala

    1/2 tablespoon ghee

    1/8 teaspoon turmeric powder

    1 teaspoon salt

    2 cups water

    bay leaf

    cinnamon

    clove

    1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds

    garnish

    1 teaspoon butter

    coriander leaves

    kasoori methi

    1 tablespoon butter

    Chana masala

    1 teaspoon garam masala

    coriander leaves

    lemon as required

    How to make a Chana masala with step-by-step pictures

    • Soak rajma overnight 

    • grind tomatoes and keep them aside
    • Add all the ingredients under "to pressure cook"; cook for 8 whistles and simmer for 15 minutes

    • add water and boil

     

    • turn off the stove
    • finally add butter, heavy cream, coriander leaves and kasoori methi
