Beetroot halwa | beetroot pudding is an easy, tasty halwa with beetroot, milk. Delicious Indian beetroot pudding can be prepared in less than 30 minutes.

Can I grate beetroot for halwa?

Yes, traditionally we grate beetroot for halwa but to save time I have finely chopped beetroot. Avoid bigger chunks of beetroot. For kids, you can even grind beetroot and prepare halwa.

Can I make a pressure cooker beetroot ka halwa?

Yes, you can make a pressure cooker or instant pot beetroot halwa. Saute beets and pressure cook in separator or release pressure manually then prepare halwa.

Can I reduce sugar?

Yes, adjust according to your sweetness. you can use jaggery/ brown sugar instead of white sugar.

Ingredients

  • 1 + ½ cup Beetroot grated or finely chopped in the chopper
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 2 cup + ½ cup Milk
  • 3 tablespoon Ghee/Butter
  • teaspoon Cardamom Powder
  • 10 Cashews

Instructions

  • Add ghee to the pan, when the ghee is hot, add cashew and roast till they are golden brown
  • Turn off the stove and keep cashew aside
  • In the same pan, add beetroot. Saute for around 3 minutes till the raw smell goes off
  • Add milk and allow it to boil in medium flame. Mix well and cook till the milk is absorbed and beetroot turns soft. it takes around 15 -2 0 minutes
  • Furthermore add sugar, cardamom powder and mix well
  • Cook for 3 minutes or till the sugar dissolves well
  • Add roasted cashews, ghee, milk and mix well
  • Cover and cook for 5 minutes or till the halwa comes together as a mass

Notes

  1. I have chopped beetroot into tiny pieces with a chopper. Instead, you can grate the beetroot
  2. for halwa,  have cooked beetroot in the pan.Instead, you can pressure cook beetroot with milk and prepare halwa in a pan
  3. Avoid adding sugar before cooking beetroot
  4. Add sugar according to your sweetness
  5. Because of milk shelf life of beetroot halwa is less
  6. After halwa is cool refrigerate. It stays good for 3 days

  1. It looks like good beetroot is always among the top foods! I've never tried beets as a dessert, we usually have them with horseradish and vinegar but it's an interesting option I have to say, and I would like to try it 🙂

  5. Beetroot is a much ignored vegetable in Indian households because people are yet to discover what a joy it is cook differently with this humble vegetable. I had made Beetroot sondesh, and it became a hit in my family 🙂 the halwa looks so good Vidya 🙂
