    how long should I cook chana dal

    Always cook chana dal in low - medium flame. mix well and cook till the mixture turns nonstick. avoid over cooking as it might turn dry.

    amount of sugar

    depends on your sweetness . it want milk sweet you can reduce sugar to get rid of chana dal flavor go easy on the sugar

    jaggery or sugar?

    you can use any sweetener of your choice. since motichoor ladoo are traditionallu made with sugar i used white sugar.

    add-on flavors

    I have used cardamom powder, kewra water and saffron. You can use rose essence or any additional flavors of your choice.

    Can I add milk powder or almond flour?

    yes you can add if you prefer firm laddu

    sugar syrup consistency

    just boil the sugar syrup till they turn sticky.

    coarse grind

    always coarse pulse the cooked chana dal

    shelflife of laddu

    stays good for a week.

    Laddu recipes 

    Ingredients 

    1/2 cup Chana dal

    1 tablespoon ghee

    Cashews and pista

    1/2 cup + 2 tablespoon sugar

    1/3 cup water

    1/4 teaspoon Cardamom powder

    Saffron

    Kewda water

    Orange food color

    • wash and Soak Chana dal

    • discard water. Cool and grind

    • Roast cashews and pista in ghee;keep aside

    • Add ground mixture; saute till color changes and turns dry

    • cool and pulse 

    • boil water, sugar, cardamom powder and kewda water; till sugar melts


    • Add orange food color and saffron; boil well

    • turn down to low flame 
    • add ground Chana dal ; mix well 

    • Add ghee and roasted nuts

    • cook for 2 minutes

    • Transfer and cool
    • Grease hands with ghee and shape laddu
