    Kadalai paruppu Sundal?

It is a popular south Indian snack variety made with chana dal and sundal podi. An easy and flavorful sundal is perfect for the Navaratri.

    WHY chana dal SUNDAL?

During Navaratri, if you are looking for a healthy flavorful temple-style Sundal recipe, chana dal kara sundal is one tasty option. I have soaked for 1 hour but you can also cook for additional whistles and skip soaking.

    HEALTHY after-school SNACKS

Protein-rich kadalai paruppu is good for kids and Adults. Sundal can be tasty after-school / school snacks for kids. You can also pack it in a lunchbox as a side dish.

    Can I skip soaking?

Soaking is optional, you can even cook for additional whistles and skip soaking. sundal prepared with soaked kadala paruppu is good for digestion.

    Amount of water

It might vary based on the chana dal variety you use. Adjust accordingly.

Can I cook on a stovetop?

Chana dal I buy here in the US won't turn mushy even if I soak and pressure cook directly. If the chana dal you use tends to cook fast, you can cook then in an open pot.

    CAN I SKIP TURMERIC POWDER?

Yes, turmeric powder is optional. I add a little to enhance the yellow color.

    CAN I SKIP SUNDAL PODI?

Sundal podi makes the sundal extra flavorful so I would highly recommend it. You can also skip sundal podi and add extra chilli, and ginger powder.

WHY COCONUT OIL FOR Bengal gram SUNDAL?

I like coconut oil flavor for coconut-based recipes. If you are not a big fan of coconut oil, you can use any cooking oil of your choice.

    SHOULD I DESEED CHILI?

You can adjust chilli according to your taste. To make it toddler-friendly I use whole red chili.

    can I skip ginger powder

ginger powder and asafoetida help with digestion. I would recommend adding both
