Dal TadkaMoong dal tadka is a simple and tasty dal. Payatham Paruppu dal can be prepared in one pot using Instant pot/pressure cooker quickly. Healthy Dal tastes great with rice, roti, paratha etc. This one pot dal is always a winner.

Dal is my comfort food. If I feel having something light, dal is the first choice that comes to my mind. It can be prepared easily and tastes yummy. Even Vishvak likes dal. He calls it Pappu mumum 😋

Amma prepares a no onion no garlic version dal. She adds only tomato but it still tastes delicious. The moment we smell the ghee aroma from the thalippu(tadka) I will start longing for the payatham Paruppu dal. Both jagadish and I like onion and garlic flavour, so I started adding those to my dal.

    Dal Tadka

Initially I use to sauté them and add to my cooked dal. My friend once made dal tadka with toor dal. She cooked onion and tomato with dal. It didn't taste raw and I loved the flavors. One pot recipes can't go wrong, it saves lot of time. I am following her style these days. I use to make dal without vegetables, but as I started preparing dal frequently I add few carrots and potatoes to my dal these days. In that way Vishvak get to eat vegetables in his favorite meal.

Pressure cooker is my saver for everyday cooking. I have cooked couple of pressure cooker based recipes in TMF. I use to make dal in cooker but recent few months Instant pot is doing magic in my kitchen.

Cooking can be done in no time also only one vessel for the entire cooking so less cleaning. I am not promoting Instant pot this not a paid review but Instant pot makes my eveyday cooking super easy. I have updated Channa Masala and keerai pappu with Instant pot . Soon you can see lot of Instant pot recipes in my space 😊

    Notes

    1. In a pressure cooker/Instant pot, you can cook dal with zero ghee/butter/oil if the tadka part is skipped
    2. Sambar powder can be used instead of chilli powder
    3. Dal thickens over time adjust the water according to the consistency you desire
    4. Onion, tomato, garlic can be skipped for no onion no garlic version
