Thakkkali sweet pachadi recipe | tomato sweet pachadi | Tamil brahmin style thakkali sweet pachadi is one of the common sweet pachadi widely served in Tamil Brahmin weddings and Muslim weddings. Tasty South Indian pachadi is prepared with tomatoes. Pachadi is easy to prepare and makes any feast extra special. I love Saravana Bhavan style fruits pachadi.

What kind of tomatoes should I use for pachadi?

You can use any variety of tomatoes, but pachadi taste varies according to the tomatoes. Always use ripe tomatoes. Avoid sour ones

    Should I pressure-cook tomatoes?

You can saute tomatoes and prepare pachadi but it takes a long time for the raw smell to go off. Pressure-cooking tomatoes are faster hence I prefer doing it.

Can I reduce Sugar for Kalyana sweet pachadi?

Traditional white sugar is added to the Kalyana pachadi. For a healthier version, you can use brown sugar, and jaggery but the taste might  not be similar. The amount of sugar depends on the sourness of tomatoes also individual sweet preferences.

Should I cook sugar to string consistency?

No, you can just add sugar to the cooked tomatoes.

    Can I use food color?

Yes, you can use orange or red food color for the pachadi and makes it colorful.

    Shouldn’t we sauté Cashew?

For Kalyana thakkali sweet  pachadi sauteeing cashew is optional. It tastes best even without that. If you prefer cashew can be sautéed in ghee and added to the sweet pachadi
